Barcelona vs Real Betis Betting tips and Match Predictions
Barcelona will begin the defence of their La Liga crown on Saturday when they host Real Betis. They have the small matter of facing Sevilla before this game, but that shouldn’t stand between them and three points. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.
Game: Barcelona vs Real Betis
Venue: Nou Camp
Kick-off: 5.15pm, Saturday 20th August
Barcelona will be thrust in to a hectic start to their new season, as first they will host Seville later this evening in the Spanish Super Cup. We haven’t covered that, but obviously my free tip would be something Barcelona related. The reverse saw them build a healthy lead so some players may be rested ahead of the weekend.
Betis have a full week to fully prepare for their visit to Barcelona but sometimes no amount of time is enough. Betis will know that having been beaten
comfortably during all of their trips here since returning to the top flight, including a 4-0 loss last season.
The fact is Barcelona will at some stage loss to a team you wouldn’t expect to beat them this season, but the odds of it being at the Nou Camp are so, so minimal, and it’s lazy but also easy to approach each game with the mentality that Barcelona will cover the handicap if they play well. 13 of the 19 teams to visit Barcelona lost by at least three goals.
Match Predictions and Betting Tips
Barcelona (if we needed to tell you) are an obvious winner here. They’re best odds of 1/12 with Coral whilst Betis can be backed at 33/1 with Betfair. The draw is available at 19/2 with Betway. But you won’t need the draw. Or a Betis win.
Betis were competitive against absolutely everyone last season, apart from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico on the road. They suffered 4-0, 5-0 and 5-1 losses to the big three. They fared well against the rest of the league, but the seasons prior had been fairly weak since their return.
It’s been another hugely busy summer of in’s and out’s at Betis who may take some time to settle domestically. Whilst they’ve added some pieces, I do also think they’ve lost some useful players in the defensive third of the pitch.
Barcelona may be without the services of Neymar here as he continues to challenge for Olympic Gold, but that depends on the outcome of their semi-final on Wednesday afternoon.
I am a man of history and I have to take notice of Barcelona’s opening day results. What I find interesting is that dating back as far as 1996 (they weren’t any better before that, I just got bored of looking back so far) Barcelona have the following record during their opening home game of the season: 15-4-1. They’ve dropped some points, lost to Hercules and eked out a couple of narrow wins. What interests us more is the handicap because that is how we will bet.
Just to make it clear I’m not saying this is the basis of a bet, but we know big teams can potentially be slower starts and Barcelona do grow. Looking at this game with Barcelona as a -3 favourite, they’ve only beaten 3 of those 20 teams by four or more goals. In fact, they would have only covered a -2.5 handicap on six occasions. Doesn’t mean they won’t beat Betis 10-0 here, but something to consider none the less.
I think Betis will come here and work hard and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them score. I think Barcelona are down a threat without Neymar and of course all attention will be on Messi. It probably depends how long Betis hold out here, but they have the potential to frustrate Barca for periods of time.
Our free betting tip for this game is Real Betis +3AH at 6/8 with Bet365.
Another interesting albeit ultimately pointless fact? Based on the records I’ve found; Barcelona have never kept a clean sheet for season opening home games in a row. They’ve currently on three.
My correct score prediction is Barcelona 3, Betis 1 at best odds of 23/1 with 888Sport. Let’s be cheeky with our goal scorer prediction and back Antonio Sanabria anytime at a price of 23/4 with 888Sport also.
Consumer Warning: What I’ve talked could all be a load of interesting yet ultimately irrelevant crap that’s not even a sub plot in an 8-0 Barcelona win. #BetResponsibly
