Bournemouth vs Man Utd Betting tips and Match Predictions

Manchester United began the Jose Mourinho era with a 2-1 win over the reigning champions, thanks to a late Zlatan goal. Mourinho has already lifted his first trophy after one game in charge of United, and now faces Bournemouth in his face EPL game. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Bournemouth vs Man Utd

Venue: Vitality Stadium

Kick-off: 1.30pm, Sunday 14th August

Jose Mourinho can be forgiven for thinking this might be quite easy after all. One swish of Zlatan’s head and he’s already lifting his first trophy and given the fans more reason to be positive than Moyes or Van Gaal did over the course of two seasons. One thing that should be said is that Van Gaal is the reason United were even in the Shield final, and those managers did not receive the correct backing from above. With Zlatan and now Pogba on board, clearly Jose has.

Eddie Howe hasn’t been short of cash flow in his time as manager of the Cherries either and you have to consider it money well spent given that Bournemouth are preparing for their second season in the Premier League.

Bournemouth were in League Two just six years ago and still in League One four years ago. It’s been a rapid rise that’s been overseen by Howe for the most part, with just spirit and blueprints at his disposal. Things changed recently after a big money takeover, with Cook, Ibe, Mousset and Smith costing the club a combined (reported) £35m.

Bournemouth and Howe definitely have building for a long and successful future at the top level in mind, but I do have to wonder if the quality of those players at present is what is needed to keep Bournemouth competing in the Premier League again this season. Sunday will be a good early test for the Cherries.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

United are the favourites at best odds of 5/6 with Betfair which is a slight rise from the opening price. There’s a lot of value in that price, though. The draw can be backed at 11/4 with Ladbrokes whilst a Bournemouth win is a rather plump price at 4/1 with Ladbrokes.

There were a lot of goals in United away games last season, but what was troubling for the Reds is that they didn’t score anywhere near a majority of them. Heavy losses to Tottenham, Everton and Arsenal just won’t do. United allowed 30 goals and responded with just 22 of their own.

Bournemouth had a similar problem. After a good start at home, they went on to concede 31 goals in 15 games. They didn’t come close to scoring as many with just 19 in return. So we have two defences that have a lot to improve on from last season, yet haven’t added any quality defenders. Eric Bailly is the exception, but that won’t stop Jones and Smalling from making mistakes.

United have however added good attacking options in Pogba, Zlatan and Mkhitaryan, and I expect them to score more than once here. I predict United can leave with a 3-1 win, which is priced at best odds of 16/1 with Bet Victor. That also leads us to our free betting tip which is Manchester United at 5/6 with Betfair. I just think they’ll have too much fire power for certain teams this season.

I know it’s going to be one of the most over used and over rated bets of this Premier League season, but Zlatan has to be scoring goals against teams of this strength. He opened his account in his first pre-season game and followed it up with the winning goal in the shield.

Zlatan does what he wants and Zlatan will want to score. The prices will be better early in the season, but once bookmakers seem him finding the net (quite possibly as often as Aguero) then we’ll see a big slash. Take advantage early. I predict Zlatan to score for United, best odds of 13/10 with Ladbrokes.
