Bristol Rovers vs Cardiff Wednesday Betting tips and Match Predictions

Under the stewardship of Darrel Clarke, Rovers are a team on the rise. Not since the days of Paul Trollope have Rovers had stability. The latter is now the manager of Cardiff and will no doubt be relishing a returning to the Mem here. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Bristol Rovers vs Cardiff

Venue: Memorial Stadium

Kick-off: 1945pm, Thursday 11th August

Paul Trollope oversaw a successful League Two campaign that saw Bristol Rovers rise from the near the bottom of the table after 15 games on an unbeaten run that saw them sneak in to the playoff places on the final day, beating Champions Hartlepool away from home.

Trollope will be also be dreaming of repeating a mazy cup run which saw Bristol Rovers host Premier League big boys West Brom in the quarter-final stages. Cardiff will fancy their chances of progression as a Championship side here, but they shouldn’t be under this impressive this will be an easy game.

Although Bristol Rovers have exited at the first hurdle in six of their last eight League Cup campaigns, they always seem to draw stiff opposition, bowing out previously to West Ham, Watford twice, Ipswich, Cardiff and Birmingham City. Still, this is a team with momentum and a deadly scorer in Matty Taylor. Cardiff began their season with a 0-0 draw at Birmingham and will remain on their travels for this game. It wasn’t the most thrilling of games, but a point on the road is always a building block, and now the Bluebirds will hope to use this game to build some momentum.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Bristol Rovers are the home team here and they are available at best odds of 2/1 with Bet365, whilst the draw can be bet on at 5/2 with Bet Victor. Cardiff are deemed the likely winners here and can be backed at best odds of 13/10 with Coral, but it certainly isn’t a clear cut outcome. Bristol Rovers have some momentum on their side right now despite an opening weekend defeat, and the Gas have scored in 23 of their last 25 home games, including during pre-season games against Aston Villa and Swansea.

Matty Taylor is the most obvious goal threat on the pitch, but the likes of Immers will be expected to breech a League One defence here. Cardiff are not the deepest of squads, especially up top, and we should see a similar line-up to the weekend. Cardiff won just 5 of 24 away games last season. Although that came against Championship opposition, it’s a rut, and Rovers look more comfortable at home. Regardless of level of opposition, Rovers have won 35 of 49 at home over the past two seasons and that’s a good habit to be in. I think there’s not a huge gap in quality between these two sides as Rovers will fancy themselves as a playoff team this season, whilst Cardiff are a mid table side at best. I think the home side will cause a lot of problems here. I certainly think both sides have enough quality to threaten the goal on more than one occasion, though. I predict that Both Teams will Score at 13/5.
