Fullham Vs Bournemouth Preview & Betting Tips

Tipstrr - 26-Oct-2018

Bournemouth travel to London for Saturday’s game at Fulham, with both teams already suffering vastly different fortunes in their nine Premier League games so far. Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic is already staring down the barrel of a long relegation struggle, while Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth are enjoying their best ever start to a Premier League season.

Game: Fulham vs Bournemouth

Venue: Craven Cottage

Kick-off: Saturday, 27th October, 3.00pm

Fulham’s playoff victory in May already seems a distant memory after a disastrous return to the top flight that has brought just one win in nine games, leaving them in the bottom three and thankful that winless Newcastle and Huddersfield are struggling even more. Fulham’s solitary win, a 4-2 success against Burnley, turned out to be a false dawn as they have managed just two further points from their six subsequent games, losing four of them. A yardstick for their problems was last Saturday’s 4-2 defeat at Cardiff City, who had been winless themselves until then and who had only scored four goals in their previous eight outings.

There is already a four-point gap between fifth and sixth in the Premier League, but top of that chasing pack is sixth-placed Bournemouth, who have lost just two of their opening nine games, winning five of them. They responded to their 4-0 drubbing at Burnley with wins over Crystal Palace and Watford, and only last Saturday’s goalless draw against a resilient Southampton denied Bournemouth their first hat-trick of consecutive Premier League wins since the end of the 2015-2016 season.

The jury is out among the bookmakers, with Bournemouth just edging ahead as favourites at 6/4 with SBOBET, while a Fulham win is just marginally behind at odds of 7/5 with BetVictor. Given the tightness of the betting market, a draw might seem an attractive option, with Pinnacle offering the best price of 14/5 against the game ending all square.

Fulham’s philosophy of going toe-to-toe with all opposition earned them deserved promotion from the Championship, but seems less effective in the top flight and might prove to be their undoing. They remain the only team in the Premier League yet to keep a clean sheet, and that naïve defending has seen them ship twelve goals in their last three games against Everton (0-3), Arsenal (1-5) and Cardiff City (2-4), taking their total goals conceded to a worrying 25 goals, six more than any other defence in the division.

Bournemouth are already nine points better off than they were this time last season, when it took them until past Christmas before they exceeded their current tally of sixteen points. Only Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City boast more than Bournemouth’s sixteen goals, while Saturday’s goalless draw with Southampton gave them back-to-back clean sheets for the first time in nearly a year.

Fulham’s promotion depended heavily on the goalscoring exploits of Aleksandar Mitrovic, and his five goals again make him top scorer, while one of the season’s bright points has been the signing of Andre Schurrle, who has weighed in with four goals. Unfortunately, neither player is prolific enough to paper over the shortcomings of Fulham’s leaky defence, and that is where Jokanovic needs to concentrate his coaching efforts.

Bournemouth have looked much more effective in front of goal this season, thanks largely to the partnership of Joshua King and Callum Wilson, whose pace and mobility have been rewarded with seven goals and five assists between them. At the back, a settled back line has brought its own defensive rewards, while Ryan Fraser’s three goals and three assists have been a bonus from a midfield where 21-year-old David Brooks has also caught the eye.

Fulham’s nine games have produced more goals (36) than any other Premier League team, while Bournemouth’s average of 3.11 suggest that there will be no shortage of goalmouth action at Craven Cottage.
