Germany vs Finland Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Germany were beaten semi-finalists in France this summer, as they failed to build on their World Cup win from two years ago. The hosts record is less than spectacular in home friendlies. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Germany vs Finland
Venue: Stadion im Borrussia-Park
Kick off: Wednesday 31st August, 8pm

Germany are often less than impressive during friendlies. Often the hosts have suffered defeat and they tend to concede far more goals than you’d expect. Despite Germany being a different team outside of tournament football, the visitors will still do well to get a result here.

Germany are preparing for their first World Cup Qualifier against Norway which will take place on Sunday and they’ll face a moderate test against opposition of similar quality here. Finland will be a part of history when they host Kosovo in their first qualifier on Monday and have the far easier tie of the two teams.

The visitors haven’t won any games since a meeting with Faroe Islands nine games ago and given the group they have, they have no choice but to make light work of the new boys as they then face Iceland, Croatia, Turkey and Ukraine in arguably the hardest qualification group.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Germany are best odds 1/5 with Paddy Power whilst a shock away win can be backed at 17/1 with Bet Victor. The draw is priced at 6/1 with Ladbrokes. It’s hard to see past a home win here, but we are more interested in the goals market here.

Germany have allowed 15 goals in 7 home friendlies. That is a massive amount of goals for this team to be letting in. Obviously they’ve faced much tougher opposition along the way than Finland, but there clearly isn’t a focus on good defence. Germany have registered 20 goals in their last eight home friendlies themselves.

Finland have had problems scoring themselves registering just five goals in their last 12 games. Away friendlies have seen them produce a slightly better record over the years but they’ve never been a team to spring a surprise. I fully expect Germany to win here, but I have to wonder if there’s value in backing Finland to get a goal. That’s available at 5/4 with Sky Bet and makes a good free betting tip.

Germany have had a settled squad for some time now but they still have a number of younger players hoping to force themselves in to the squad. One such player is Kevin Volland, who will be looking to make a good impression here. He’s best odds 13/10 with Coral to score here.

I do believe Germany will switch off long enough to allow the visitors a few chances here, but you’d still expect one way traffic for the most part. Germany to win 3-1 is priced at 12/1 with Bet Victor.
