Man City vs Steaua Bucharest Predictions, Betting Tips and preview

Manchester City have already made light work of this tie and could even reach double figures over two legs by the time they’re done here. The visitors will be playing for pride, but other arrangements may be on their mind. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Man City vs Steaua Bucharest

Venue: Etihad Stadium

Kick-off: 7.45pm, Wednesday 24th August

Despite City’s emphatic win in the first leg and the likelihood they rest players here, you’d expect them to comfortably build on their current 5-1 lead. Steaua will visit with this tie already being no more than damage limitations and a Europa League campaign to look forward to, so I don’t think they’ll go out of their way to compete with City here.

Pep chose to play a strong squad in both games last week and witnessed his side score six goals en route to two wins. Sergio Aguero scored five and Nolito two and surely now Guardiola will make use of his squad by resting those two and many others. Iheanacho, who we suspected may start last Tuesday, will surely get a look in now.

Steaua played out a 1-1 draw in an intense atmosphere during their derby match with local rivals and league leaders Dinamo Bucharest on the weekend, and they face a tough trip to fourth placed Pandurii just three days after this game. I don’t know to what extent the visitors may rest players here, but they will.

The prospect of Aguero and co being rested isn’t that big a positive for the visitors as the starting XI will have everything to prove if they want to work their way in to Pep’s plans. The Spaniard may also surprise us by going full strength again. After all, he did most of the time with Barcelona. Pep often expected his side to be fit enough to deal with it early in the season and understood the importance of winning.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Surprise surprise hosts City are best odds of 1/5 with Bet365. Given what they did in their first leg though, those are accumulator worthy, but not backable. The draw is available at 6/1 with Bet Victor and Steaua can be backed at 19/1 also at Bet Victor. I wouldn’t advise the latter two.You have to be considering the -2AH here if you want to be getting even money or above on City. -2AH is pretty close at a price of 13/14 with 888Sport and it’s hard to imagine any City team fielded not winning this game comfortably, so that’s our free betting tip.

Sergio Aguero is massively odds on to score at odds of 8/15 but you can’t be sure he will start. As much as rotation is now surely likely though, Pep rarely if ever kept Messi off the pitch for a second, and Aguero is certainly Man City’s equivalent.

It seemed like last week’s tie turned in to a defensive experiment for Pep whose substitutions were Sagna, Clichy and Fernando. Iheanacho did not appear as we expected when he came on as an 83rd minute sub against Stoke he played his part in Nolito’s goals, so surely he’ll get his chance now. Back Kelhi to score at 5/6 with Bet365.

When it comes to predicting a score line I can’t see past this being very comfortable regardless of who plays. Manchester City should have had seven in the first league. They perhaps don’t have the same urgency now. City to win 4-0 is best odds 9/1 with Bet Victor
