Newcastle United vs Brighton Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

To get carried away with Newcastle losing their first two games would have been foolish, yet people did it anyway. Three straight wins doesn’t mean their problems are solved though as Brighton will provide a very tough test. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Newcastle vs Brighton
Venue: St James Park
Kick off: Saturday 27th August, 5.30pm

Newcastle United looked like the unthinkable could happen when they looked just as lost and disjointed in the Championship, losing to Fulham and Huddersfield in their first two games. They followed that up with wins over Reading, Bristol City and Cheltenham.

Brighton are unbeaten so far and they’ve scored a lot of goals. Albion were lethal in front of goal all season at home, but they struggled to match that away. This term they’ve already find the net six times but did begin with a more typical 0-0 away at Derby.

Brighton have registered 16 goals in five games on route to putting themselves second in the league and very comfortably navigating two League Cup ties. It hasn’t been as comfortable for the Toon who pulled away from Reading late on and had to be patient against Bristol City and Cheltenham.

This is only the third meeting in the history of these clubs with Brighton registering two cup shocks in 2013 and 2012. Both sides will face the International break after this game and won’t want to drop points here.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Newcastle are the favourites to win this game at odds of 23/20 with Sky Bet. The draw is best odds 12/5 with Boylesports and the away side are on offer at 11/4 with Betway to cause a small ‘shock’.

Make no mistake that Albion are completely capable of coming here, winning, and keeping a clean sheet. Forest, Rotherham, Colchester and Derby rarely troubled the Albion goal although they’ve been shaky on their travels. Both Reading and Oxford managed two goals.

United are starting to click very quickly and so they should with the talent they have at their disposal. It’s not just that Newcastle have assembled a team worth X amount of money, but that most of these players have played in successful Championship teams before and have now dropped back down from the Premier League.

What’s been most impressive about Albion is that they’ve provided a threat from all over the pitch with 10 different goal scorers already. Ayoze Perez and Dwight Gayle have been at the forefront of what Newcastle have done so far, scoring six goals between them. Back Dwight Gayle to score again at 15/8 with Bet365.

I think we can see already that Gayle is going to be an unstoppable force this season and he’s a good bet for the league’s top scorer. However, Brighton have their own threat and I expect them to get on the score sheet here. This will be a big test for both teams, but I think they’d both be happy with a point to extend their unbeaten run ahead of the break. My correct score prediction is 1-1 at best odds of 6/1 with Bet Victor which ties in with our free betting tip of Brighton +0.25AH at 21/20 with Bet365.
