Norwich vs Sheffield Wednesday Betting tips and Match Predictions

Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday both made a positive start to the season, but they’ll face a stiff test when they meet at Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon. Norwich will be weary of Wednesday’s counter attacking style, but this is a chance for the relegated side to make a huge statement. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Norwich vs Sheffield Wednesday

Venue: Carrow Road

Kick-off: 5.30pm, Saturday 13th August

Aston Villa fans would have been hoping for better things to start this season, but I can’t say I’m that surprised at the start they’ve made. Sheffield Wednesday beat the Villains 1-0 at home last week and although the goal was gifted to them, it was taken well and it was one that they deserved on the balance of play.

Norwich needed no help… Well, OK, Blackburn’s defence did actually make it incredibly easily... But the Canaries were 4-1 victors on opening day. Murphy, Hoolahan, Jerome and Naismith contributed the goals as the rest of the league sat up and took notice. Norwich start the weekend top of the league thanks to the one-sided score line, but we shouldn’t expect five goals here.

Most of Sheffield Wednesday’s struggles last season did come on the road, but equally their counter attacking style allowed them to pick up some good results also. They started and finished their away schedule by going five games without a win. Although Wednesday only won six of 23 on their travels, they often found a way to avoid defeat.

Wednesday kept seven clean sheets and were shutout six times, so goals were very much a feature of their season with both teams often finding the net. Despite scoring goals in abundance, Norwich were very leaky at home during their last Championship promotion campaign.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

William Hill are the only bookmaker to offer Norwich above even money at a price of 21/20 whilst the draw is best odds 12/5 at the same outlet. Wednesday to win carries a juicy price of 3/1 which you can nab at several outlets including Betfred.

Norwich’s last promotion campaign was built largely on their away form, as the Canaries won 15 away games and avoided defeat in half of the remaining games, as opposed to the 11 wins they compiled at home. It all adds up, but draws were a big problem for Norwich last time around. That trend has turned itself around in the Premier League, as Norwich struggled away. They struggled full stop, but seven of their 10 wins came at Carrow Road.

Wednesday were dominant in the first half against Villa but didn’t take their chances. The visitors grew in to the game as the second half progressed which forced Wednesday in to their counter attacking style, but they looked just as comfortable and eventually got the winner on the break.

There will be times when I expect the visitors to sit in and get behind the ball on Saturday but Norwich must be very aware of their counter attacking threat. Given the way these two teams that like to play and their trends for goals, I’d like to offer Both Teams to Score as our free betting tip in this game, which is best priced 5/6 with Sky Bet.
