Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

These two teams couldn't have made more different starts to the season. Madrid beat Sociedad 3-0 on their travels whilst Celta were embarrassed at home by the league's new boys. All signs point to a comfy home win here.

Game: Real Madrid vs Celta Vigo

Venue: Bernabeu Stadium

Kick off: Saturday 27th August, 7.15pm

Perhaps the weekends results in Spain were a sign of the growing dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona. We spoke about how they can traditionally be slow starters and then we were beaten comfortable when going against them on the handicap.

Real Madrid were much more comfortable than I expected as Gareth Bale led them to a 3-0 win without the services of Cristiano Ronaldo on opening weekend. Celta, unlike Sociedad, didn’t test Madrid at all last season. The club from the capital cruised to a 7-1 win here and a 3-1 win against 10 men in the reverse.

Everything started and finished so well for Celta last season but the wheels fell massively off in between. Celta have been performing in fits and starts so perhaps an opening day loss (0-1) to newly promoted Leganes is a sign of things to come.

It was mostly a season of torment for Celta on the road last season. They never fulfilled their potential and went from one extreme to the other. They started well, even beating Sevilla 2-1, before losing six of the next 10. A low point must have been a 3-0 loss to Rayo. They’ve lost their last six trips to Madrid, allowing 19 goals.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Madrid are 2/11 favourites with Bet365 to win their first home game of the season whilst the draw is available at 13/2 with Bet Victor. Celta Vigo to win is a lofty 16/1 and given the way Real started the season, they shouldn’t get their hopes up.

Being without Cristiano Ronaldo would have a negative effect on any team but Real Madrid coped well. Gareth Bale looked like a real leader and just like Suarez did for Barcelona last season, you wonder if Gareth Bale has it in him to overthrow Ronaldo as the top scorer.

The Welsh Man scored a pair of goals at the weekend and took control of the game for his team and with Cristiano likely to miss out on this game also, Bale to score at odds of 3/4 with William Hill could be a great price. As long as Madrid match the standards they set last week and Bale performs it’s hard to see past them winning.

Given the way the teams performed on opening day I think the handicap could easily be -2.25 or -2.5AH. We also have to remember the pieces Celta are without this season, such as Nolito. I’ll take my chances with -2 because we could take our money back. Our free betting tip is Real Madrid -2AH at 1/1 with Bet365.

Finally, we need to put a score on this bad boy. If the teams perform how they did on opening weekend then you would worry for Celta who could suffer anything, including a repeat of last seasons 7-1. Real Madrid to win 4-1 is best odds of 14/1 with Bet365.
