Tottenham vs Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

Liverpool put out a strong team at Burton on Tuesday evening and rebounded from their disappointing performance against Burnley with a 5-0 thrashing of Burton. Tottenham have made an unbeaten start to their season. Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: Tottenham vs Liverpool
Venue: White Hart Lane
Kick off: Saturday 27th August, 12.30pm

Liverpool have made an entertaining yet inconsistent start to their season. After beating Arsenal 4-3 on their travels they were beaten 2-0 by newly promoted Burnley. Their response was to field a near full strength team and beat up on Championship Burnley.

Spurs had no cup commitments midweek and get to sit on there 1-0 win over Palace before facing another home game. Spurs have taken four points from their two games so far and there defence has been organised. They were unfortunate not to claim a pair of 1-0 wins.

I find it quite ridiculous that the Premier League will take an international break after just three games but it is what it is. If Spurs can go three unbeaten ahead of the break it’ll be a fantastic start to the season with some time to re-assess during the international break.

If Liverpool lose here they’ll be left bemoaning their defence form which has already seen them concede two counter attacking goals against Burnley and nearly throwing away a 4-1 lead against Arsenal.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

Tottenham are favourites to win at best odds of 7/5 with Sky Bet. The drawn can be backed at 5/2 with the same bookmaker whilst Liverpool can be seen as good value, and they’re available at 2/1 with Bet365.

Spurs haven’t beating Liverpool in seven games dating back to a 2-1 home win in 2012. Since then they’ve lost five and drawn the last two.

Last seasons 0-0 and 1-1 draws were a far cry from previous encounters that the Reds register four wins and 15 goals in just four games.
Tottenham seem to be benefiting from a minimal pre-season fixture list where most of their time was instead spent on the training ground. They do look very organised, and they were lethal in their 6-1 win over Inter. Since then Spurs’ strike force has been subdued with just the one goal in each game coming from the midfield, but defensively they’ve been hard to break down.

Liverpool have been the opposite and they’ve also been very susceptible to a counter attack. That’s something we know Spurs can execute well with the likes of Lamela and Eriksen.

Defence must have been a focus of Liverpool’s training ground work this week. Going forward they’ve managed nine goals through their first three games and we saw their attacking prowess in full force against Barcelona. I think that this game won’t be a repeat of Arsenal and Liverpool, but I do think there’s too much quality for both of these sides not to score. Our free betting tip is Over 2.5 goals at 4/5 with Boylesports.

Sadio Mane has looked devastating going forward this season. He took Barcelona apart before scoring a fantastic goal against Arsenal, and I think he can exploit the space in behind with Lloris absent. Back Sadio Mane to score at 11/4 with Betway.

We’ve seen some incredibly entertaining games between these two in past years but last year was very subdued. Tottenham haven’t been too clinical so far, but they’ve been tight at the back. Liverpool have been the polar opposites and I think they’ll force Tottenham in to an open game at times. My correct score prediction is 2-2 at best odds of 14/1 with William Hill.
