USA Set Record with Win in World Cup

The Women's World Cup is currently being played in France, and it is receiving a lot of attention in particular because of recent wins by the English team but the USA team managed a historic win last night whilst playing against Thailand, smashing an amazing thirteen goals passed them to set a Women's World Cup record bets.co.za reports today.

Team USA has been a great squad over the years, and they are the current World Cup holders having won the last one back in 2015. The game started well for the defending champs, and they went into the half with a comfortable lead of 3-0 which isn't a particularly unusual score and was somewhat expected. Thailand was losing, but deficits like that have been overcome before. However, the USA exploded in the second half managing to blast another ten goals past the team from Thailand. It certainly wasn't a result that was being expected, and supporters and commentators alike could only watch in horror as Thailand got beat.

Team USA overturned the previous record which goes back to 2007 when Germany annihilated Argentina 11-0. However, this wasn't the first big win by Team USA. Back in 1991, they beat Chinese Taipei an amazing 7-0 in a world cup match from that year. However, 13-0 is a fantastic score, and this means that the US were scoring goals roughly every 5 minutes in the second half, which is impressive.

Alex Morgan lead the scoring with an incredible five goals. Talking to the press after the match she said "With the scoreline tonight, we have to look at the group stage as every goal counts. It was important for us to continue to go. We knew every goal could matter."

As defending champions the USA are going to want to defend well, and maybe even pull off a historic double, and they may well be able to do it as they have only lost one of their international games in the last two years, and this includes a run of seven wins in a row amassing some thirty-six goals in those games.

Thailand was understandably unhappy with such a loss but their manager, Nuengruethai Sathongwien, wants her team to keep on fighting. There is still an outside chance for the team to make the playoffs despite being ranked 34th in the world. They just need to perform well in their final two matches against Chile and Sweden. Though she did recognise the strength of the American players saying "They saw that our players were very disappointed and they wanted to encourage us to continue fighting. Thank you very much for that. We've got two more games to play, and we need to bounce back. They have their responsibilities, and they know what they need to do. My players were waiting for this moment, and they were really disappointed."

The US will play Chile in their next match, a team that will not be wanting to repeat the performance of Thailand, and put in an excellent performance to progress.
