1:25 Kempton

A decent race with many having their 1st start over fences. The horse that stands out to me is WEST WIZARD. This is a horse who used to be trained by Nicky Henderson and was a one time Supreme Novice Hurdle favourite. WEST WIZARD didn't quite hit the heights expected over hurdles but I think something was keeping him back. WEST WIZARD changed yards over the Summer and is now trained by Nigel Twiston Davies. On his final start for Henderson he did win a novice hurdle at this very track and showed signs of a classy horse. The way he jumped that day gave me the impression he would be suited to chasing and benefit from bigger obstacles. He had plenty of Scope that day and was big at every hurdle. Those attributes are key to chasing. Now he has changed yards I believe Twiston Davies could find the key to this horse. Sometimes a change of scenery is all that is needed for a horse to find his best form. WEST WIZARD is also out of Kings Theatre who has produced some lovely chasers over the years. Our selection also runs off a handicap mark of 129 with Ryan Hatch taking a further 3lb off his back. I have no doubt in my mind this horse is a better horse than his mark and the word on everyone's lips on Boxing Day could be how did this horse go off at 6/1. WIN.
WEST WIZARD 6/1 with most firms - Lost
1:40 Wincanton

BUYWISE back over hurdles you simply take note. If this horse was a better jumper over fences he would've gone very far in the game. Today he is dropped back to hurdles and I believe this will help the horse as he don't quite make the shape needed to jump fences. A handicap mark of 142 could like tiny come 1:45 Boxing Day and I am sure he will be involved. This horse will be staying on when others have had enough and I kind of feel the horse will be relieved that he will now be jumping hurdles. WIN.
BUYWISE 9/2 with Paddy Power - Void

1:45 Wetherby

I know HOLYWELL has a huge burden over his head of carrying 11st 12lb and the rest of the field are right down the handicap, but I just can't let him go off as big as 8/1. This is a horse who finished 4th in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and even though this is a Grade 3 it is a very poor Grade 3. Ground is not in his favour but he still managed to finish 4th in the Gold Cup in the same ground. I am happy to take a chance with HOLYWELL as he should really be around the 9/2 mark in my opinion. E/W.
HOLYWELL 8/1 with Coral and Ladbrokes - Void N/R

2:00 Kempton

I was really impressed with TEA FOR TWO when he made his debut over fences at Exeter at the start of the month. He was simply foot perfect at every fence and Lizzie Kelly gave him a great ride. This horse was always going to be a better chaser than a hurdler and so he proved it 3 weeks ago. TEA FOR TWO is up in distance today but 3 miles around a track like Kempton should be perfect. The ground is also in his favour and basically the more rain the better for this one. The scope this horse has is unbelievable and I believe we will see a top class performance on Boxing Day. WIN.
TEA FOR TWO 9/4 with William Hill - Won +2.25

3:10 Kempton

The race we have all been waiting for and I have 2 selections. The first horse is a rare 2 point win and the other is a 0.5 points E/W bet.
What a race we have in store and you could probably make a case for a few of these. Don Cossack is the warm favourite but my personal view is a track like Kempton will be totally against him. Vautour could win by a distance but I believe he would prefer a left handed track, Good Ground is preferred and this is his first time over 3 miles. To many negatives for me but I do respect the horse.
The horse I am really confident about is CUE CARD. He is one of my favourite horses in training and on his 2 starts this season I haven't tipped him which is surprising as I have a real soft spot for him. The manner in which he won the Betfair Chase at Haydock last time out was to impressive to ignore. He basically beat Silvinaco Conti who has won this race twice and he won on the bridle. You don't see horses win Grade 1s on the bridle these days so you simply applaud them as I don't care who you are, not one person can knock the manner of that victory. CUE CARD has had a breathing operation which has worked like magic and he now fully stays 3 miles. Unbelievable what that operation can do to some horses. He has also matured so much and gone are the days where he pulls all the way around. The only negative is this is his 4th attempt in this race but on all occasions the horse could not breath so had his excuses. Now all his problems have gone and as long as he turns up the same horse as Haydock I am confident he will win this race. Paddy Brennan who is now his new partner absolutely loves this horse and has even suggested CUE CARD gives him a better feel than Gold Cup winner Imperial Commander. That is some statement. 2 POINT WIN.
CUE CARD 4/1 with William Hill - Won +8

No way can I let AL FEROF go off at huge odds of 20/1. He couldn't have won the Peterborough Chase any easier so deserves more respect than 20/1. On his day this horse is pure class so I for one will not underestimate. AL FEROF switched from Paul Nicholls to Dan Skelton over the summer and if I am being honest I could see the improvement in his jumping at Huntingdon last time out. As I previously stated in an earlier tip, a change of scenery can do a horse the world of good. Dan Skelton has a habit of improving horses and a trainer I have plenty of respect for. AL FEROF has to be a great E/W bet at 20/1.
AL FEROF 20/1 with Paddy Power and Boylesports - Placed +2.5

Kempton – 15:40

Bet: 0.5 Point Each Way

Horse: Starluck - Lost

Odds & Notes:

20/1 Betvictor, Boylesports, Skybet, Ladbrokes & Stanjames

Starluck has been around a long time but remains in good heart and runs today off a good rating of 132. His record at Kempton is very good winning once and finishing in the first three in 4 of his 6 starts. He is a sweet travelling horse and will be able to lay up with the inevitable fast pace and strike late under Nico De Boinville. He is well overpriced at 20/1.

Leopardstown – 14:20

Bet: 0.5 Point Each Way

Horse: Wes Hardin - Lost

Odds & Notes:

11/1 Betfair SB & Racebets else 10/1 generally

Wes Hardin let us down running well below his best last time out but there must have been a good excuse as it was too bad to be true and came quickly following his good run at Punchestown. He handles heavy ground well and in form 7lb claimer Jonathan Moore ensures that there is just 10-2 on his back. That will be a big help in the heavy ground and on his best form he has a very good chance in this open handicap.

Leopardstown – 14:55

Bet: 0.5 Point Each Way

Horse: Sumos Novios - Lost

Odds & Notes:

11/1 Paddy Power & Betfair SB both 5 places else 10/1 generally but ensure get 5 places

This is a cracking race as always and took a long time to desert Empire of Dirt in favour of Sumos Novios who carries a 9lb penalty for beating Empire of Dirt last time out. The main reasoning is that Bryan Cooper has choosen to ride the Novice Captain Von Trappe ahead of Empire of Dirt and we do not know at this time who rides Empire of Dirt who has fallen as many times as he has remained standing over fences.

The more logical choice is to side with the massive horse that is Sumos Novios. Connections were going to head to the Thyestes Chase in January as sure to get heavy ground which suits this horse who has had training issues. However, he made the cut for this race and the rains arrived to ensure proper heavy ground. He jumped and travelled super around Punchestown and afterwards trainer Willie Burke claimed they were concerned he would need the race as he had not had a race course gallop beforehand. Surely, he will improve massively for that run and will relish the step up in trip. Inexperience is the main concern but I’m surprised he is not outright favourite for this race.

Our other Ante Post runner Minella Foru has thankfully got here in one piece and it’s a positive Barry Geraghty rides with this race the plan for a long time. Hopefully, he handles the ground and trip and gets us a big win.

Back in the correct grade now and went close from the same mark under this jockey 3 races ago. Priced up as if in the handicapper's grip but aforementioned race suggests otherwise. Potentially v generous price. Also has form on heavy ground.

Thursday 31st December - Bookies Enemy No.1 - Horse Racing Tipster

2 selections for tomorrow

Single bets
3.00 Lingfield:Roy’s Legacy 3/1 generally (2pts win) - Won +6 points
2.30 Lingfield:Mystical Sapphire 7/1 generally (1pt win) - Lost

Multiple bets
Roy’s Legacy/Mystical Sapphire (0.5pts win double)

3.5pts total stake

3.00 Lingfield:Roy’s Legacy

Up just 3lb for his Kempton win last time but he won that quite cosily and still looks to be very well handicapped. He meets “Prominna” here who he beat last time and in fairness she looked a little unlucky not to finish closer but if you take into account his course experience over her at Lingfield plus the valuable addition of Adam Kirby in the saddle then the 3lb shouldn’t be enough to reverse those placing and I think he looks the likeliest winner.

2.30 Lingfield:Mystical Sapphire

“Crack Shot” who’s already been well backed looks a notable runner in this race having his first start since July with Adam Kirby booked who has a fantastic strike rate for James Tate but at a bigger price I think Mystical Sapphire might be value. She won well at Kempton 2 starts back where I noted there could be more to come as she was once rated 90 and then followed that up with another decent effort at Chelmsford where she looked very unlucky not to finish closer to the winner as she got badly hampered off the final bend and lost lots of momentum before picking up quite well again once balanced by which time the race was over. She might be better at Kempton as that’s where her best runs have come but she ran well enough here over a mile 2 years ago in a listed fillies race on her only visit and the return to 7f should serve her better at this track especially if she is ridden in the same way as that kempton win just behind the leaders.

Friday 1st January - Master Racing Tips - Horse Racing Tipster

12.55 Southwell, General Tufto - Lost
1pt Win 8/1 PaddyPower
He may be 11 years old now and on a long losing run but General Tufto showed signs of a return to form last time out when staying a staying on 3rd to Excelling Oscar. General Tufto hit form about this time last year when winning over course and distance off marks of 51 and 58 and looks well in here off a lowly 47. He tends to get behind early so don't panic if you see him scrubbed along early doors he does stay on and with Joey Haynes who knows the horse well it will be no surprise to see General Tufto return to form in this weak contest

2.30 Cheltenham, Rons Dream - Lost
1pt EW 8/1 Boylesports
Stable won this race last year and have a good chance again with Rons Dream who will have no problem handling the ground and has no stamina issues having won over further. Ran with credit off this mark last time out when a good second but that was over a shorter trip and today's conditions will suit him better. A competitive race but Rons Dream is capable of more improvement and is expected to run a big race

3.45 Southwell, The Lock Master - Won +4.5 points
1pt Win 7/2 Betfair Sportsbook
The Lock Master ran a very solid race 10 days ago when 3rd to Swift Cedar having been off the track for 107 days. He should come on for that run and boasts a fine record here winning 6 times twice over course and distance and off of his current mark looks well handicapped. There are question marks over most of his rivals, Ready the trip and surface, the same applies to the lightly raced Taysh whilst Countermand was beaten off this mark last time and could be in the handicappers grip. Ralphy Lad who finished just ahead of my selection and is actually better off now looks the main danger but I feel with the likelihood that the Lock Master needed the run last time he will come on for that and reverse the form.
