Analysis – This six-year old posted a better effort over 2m a month ago when beaten four-lengths in fourth at Redcar and having been eased a pound for that he’s now sitting on his last winning mark of 61. The gelding also takes a drop in trip to 1m6f where he’s shown his best form, having won 4/8 including off this mark at Catterick last August. He likes the quick ground and is dropped into class 6 company (all four wins at this trip have been in class 5). Phillip Kirby rarely visits this track (2/5) and has Paula Muir claiming a further 5lb.

Analysis – He landed a Stratford double last summer over 2m1f and added to those with a listed win at Ascot in November carrying top-weight. He’s followed that up with two even better efforts (based on RPR’s) after a break over the winter months, firstly when second behind the well-handicapped Azzuri at the Scottish National meeting before finishing fourth (beaten seven-lengths) in the Grade 1 Celebration Chase behind Altior off level-weights. Now a repeat of that performance would surely be enough to win this back in handicap company, he loves the quick ground and Sam Twiston-Davies, ten times a winner on this gelding, deserts stablemate Mcgroarty in favour of the top-weight.
