Tipsters Review - March 4, 2022

Saturday 26th Feb- King Of The Picks

1.15 Kempton
Flegmatik 1 point each way(9/2 Bet 365/ Betfair/ Betvictor, 3 places)

Flegmatik is looking to back up his win here at Kempton over 3 miles last time out. That was his second run after a wind operation and he won readily beating Ofalltheginjoints by 7 ½ lengths. This step down to 2m4 ½ f shouldn’t inconvenience him. Harry Skelton does the steering and he is a solid each way play

2.25 Kempton
2 points Win Pic DOrhy (2/1 General, 2 places)

Pic D’Orhy disappointed when a well beaten third to L’Homme Presse in the Grade One at Sandown. I feel he tried to go toe to toe with the hugely talented L’Homme Presse at a stiff task and fell well short. This flat track should suit much better. It was well documented that the Paul Nicholls stable was struggling for form over the last few weeks and I imagine that should be nearly coming to an end sooner rather than later. He has form on good to soft when easily winning a Grade 2 at Ascot over 2m3f. A solid round of jumping will make him the one to beat

3.00 Kempton

Iceo 1 point each way (9/2 General, 3 places)

Iceo was disappointing last time at Cheltenham when we’ll beaten by the exciting Pied Piper. Again the Nicholls stable was under a cloud and a line can be drawn through that run. He couldn’t have been more impressive when bolting up here by 17 lengths over the Christmas period. That was on soft ground and I would have a concern if the ground was to ride closer to good at the time of racing. He is a big chaser in the making and hopefully they will go a strong pace which will suit our selection

3.37 Kempton
Cap Du Nord 1 point each way ( 7/1 Paddy power/ Betfair, 5 places)

Once again we go to battle with Cap Du Nord who gets in here off a rating of 127. That leaves him 15lbs lower than when a 10 lengths fifth in this race last year. Jack Tudor knows him well and uses his 3lbs claim. His last winning mark was 123 back in November 2020. I do like to see the cheekpieces returned which should help his jumping and I expect a bold bid today. It is hard to forget that he is 6lbs lower than when second (beaten 3 ¾ lengths) to the then 140 rated Royal Pagaille over course and distance in December 2020

1 point each way The Big Breakaway (8/1 Betfair/ Paddy power/ Betfred, 5 places)

I thought The Big Breakaway ran an encouraging race last time after a wind operation finishing third at Newbury over 3 miles. That was over hurdles and if he jumps todays fences as high as he jumped his hurdles he should be fine. They went no pace for the first half of that race and he got outpaced before staying on again at the line. If you missed my sarcasm his jumping was high and slow but the main point was that he saw out the race really well. There going for all aids today with the cheekpieces refitted and a first time tongue tie added. It looks like this may have been the plan.

2.05 Lingfield
2 points Win Lord North ( 1/1 , General, 3 places)

John Gosden has won the last three renewals of this race and hopefully Lord North will make it four. This dual Group One winner (2020 Prince of Whale’s winner at Royal Ascot and the Dubai Turf in Meydan) is the class horse in this race and should really win this even if not fully at 100%. He runs off level weights, goes well fresh, has a nice draw in stall 5 and Rob Havlin has won on him before. In short he is the class act and should take all the beating

3.15 Newcastle
Win My Wings 1 point each way  (8/1 Bet 365/ Boylesports/ Ladbrokes, 5 places)

Win My Wings stayed on really strongly last time to win at Exeter over 3m on soft ground. She has been risen 3lbs for that win but this step up to over 4miles and the better ground is sure to bring about improvement. First time cheekpieces have been applied and Ryan Mania takes the ride. It looks like this stamina test will be right up her street.

History Of Freedom 1 point each way  (11/2 Paddy power/ Betfair/ William Hill, 6 places)

History of Freedom makes the trip to Newcastle for the shrewd Pat Fahy. He won last time out at Down Royal by 8 lengths over 3 miles on yielding ground and went up 11lbs for that impressive win but more importantly the BHA handicapper only put 2lbs on his Irish mark. He is open to any amount of improvement over this marathon trip and is sure to be competitive off this mark. Richard Condon rides and takes a further 7lbs off. He is an each way play
