PGA Profit Selections
Gary Woodland
The former U.S. Open Champion is my only real interest from the top end of the market having shown very strong from with back-to-back 5th place finishes, followed by an 8th at the Valero Texas Open. We know he can be devastating off the tee (currently 14th in driving distance) and whilst the accuracy is a slight concern his approach play has been good enough to make up for it. Excluding Jon Rahm this is a very weak PGA Tour event field and affords Woodland a great opportunity to get his first win since that major in 2019.

Davis Riley – WON
Next up we have the first one of Korn Ferry Tour upstarts who I feel could potentially grab their maiden tour win this week. Riley has become familiar to a few after his outstanding performance at the Valspar, losing in a play-off to Sam Burns. He did not seem phased at all by the moment making crucial shots when needed. He finished the Korn Ferry Tour last season ranked 14th in putting average and 21st in driving distance which is clearly the combination every golfer is looking for right now. He also had strong 7th place finish in Bermuda at the start of the season, to go along with a win in Panama, so you know his game travels well.

Taylor Moore
The other Korn Ferry standout I’m backing this week is the guy who reeled off top 10 finishes for fun in 2021 – 9 of them to be precise, which shows a huge level of consistency. He also finished 5th at the El Bosque Mexico Championship back in 2018. He made a strong start to the PGA Tour season 8th, 16th, 17th, and 21st place finishes before going off the boil slightly, until this weekend where him and Matt NeSmith finished in a tie for 4th. Again, this week represents a great opportunity for guys like Moore. Known for his accurate driving and approach play he shouldn’t find too much trouble off the tee, but he does need the putter to show up.

Carlos Ortiz
I know his form isn’t the best right now, but his record at Mayakoba should tell you all you need to know about how well Ortiz performs when he has some home comforts – 2nd in 2019, 8th in 2020, and 2nd again in 2021, not to mention winning the El Bosque Mexico Championship back in 2014. It also wasn’t too long ago that he was sat inside the worlds top 50 after winning the Houston Open. The major issue in his game right now is around the greens where he ranks nearly dead last in strokes gained. But looking at the numbers the rest isn’t too shabby, and at 100/1 I’d be crazy not to back him.

Emiliano Grillo
Final selection this week is the out of form Argentine who could easily cause a shock. After bursting onto the scene in 2014 he quickly made a name for himself winning the Web.com (now Korn Ferry) Tour Championship and the Frys.com Open eventually reaching the dizzying heights of 25th in the world. Whilst his career has somewhat stagnated since then he’s always capable of shooting some very low rounds out of the blue. His current form leaves a lot to be desired, but he does sit 3rd in total driving so far this season. But at 150/1 he’s very over-priced.
