1.35 Aintree Becher Chase
I love these races over the National fences with the Topham being top of my wish list but the Becher is very close behind having napped Amberleigh
House in 2001 at a massive 50-1. He bolted up that day and went on to win the big one itself. There are a few who’ve tried these races before with
varying degrees of success. Last weeks 3rd in the Hennessy Double Ross has run 3 times over these fences with a 5th in the Grand Sefton 5th in
the Topham and PU in the Grand National itself twice a beaten fav but after such a hard race only 7 days ago I’m leaving him out here. The two I
like the look of both ran in the race last year, DARE TO ENDEAVOUR finished 2nd to Highland Lodge beaten 2L off 134 and runs today off 135 but
is 4lb better off this time. He’s won 3 times over fences all on a softish surface over 2m4 -3m, the negative is that all wins have been is small
fields but he was 2nd of 17 last year and finished 5th of 15 in the Munster Chase last time out. The other I quite like at the price is PORTRAIT
KING who was in 5th and staying on when fell 2 out last year as a 14-1 chance. He’s won 3 chase races and a P-T-P all over 3m+ including the 4mile
Eider Chase and an Irish Grand National trial at Punchestown. This season he’s had 2 runs both over hurdles where he ran ok on both occassions.
He runs off a 2lb lower mark this year after finishing 6th in the Welsh National and 3rd again in the Eider showing the 11yo still retains his
ability, so provided he gets round this time as he also fell in Many Clouds Grand National when still in contention at the 3rd last, he must have
an ew chance. As always I’d rather take a slightly lesser price for more places so recommend anyone paying 5 places especially if they offer BOG
as well.
Bets:
DARE TO ENDEAVOUR 1PT EW 20-1 5 places BV
PORTRAIT KING 20-1 1PT EW 5 places PP

3.15 Aintree Grand Sefton Chase
Another race over the Grand National fences but this one is over a slightly shorter trip than the Becher Chase. Last year I tipped Double Ross at 12-1
who went off at 7-2F he could only manage 5th which was a disappointing run. This year I’ve an outsider I quite like the look of, for some reason
THE ITALIAN YOB is jumping off the page at me. When looking into his form he has only fallen once in 15 chase races winning 2 of them including
one over this distance. He’s also won one off a 3lb higher mark than he runs off here. His last 5 races he’s been ridden by Lizzie Kelly but she
is replaced by Brian Harding here, he made his seasonal debut 13 days ago at Exeter over 3 miles where he ran well up to weakening from the 3rd
last to finish 12L 5th in a Class 3 h’cap. This is ceratinly a hotter race but he does get to run off just 10st which always helps round here over
these fences. The other one I quite liked the look of is TROIKA STEPPES who ran a great race to finish 2nd of 15 at Cheltenham last time. He was
ridden by Miss A.Sterling that day as he was when winning the time before by 7L again at Cheltenham, she is replaced here by Connor Shoemark who
won on him over 2m4 at Leicester back in March 2016 as well as this day last year again at Leicester over 2m6,so knows the horse well. Troika Steppes
has won 3 of his 9 chase races and is yet to finish worse than 5th in any of them.
Bets:
THE ITALIAN YOB 1PT EW 33-1 4 PLACES B365 CORAL
TROIKA STEPPES 1PT EW 16-1 4 PLACES PP BFSB
