New York City vs Chicago Fire Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview

City have been free scoring and in good form at home, and it seems unlikely Chicago will stop them. The Fire are playing without pressure and purely for pride, but they haven't been good away from home. Below are our predictions, betting tips and preview.

Game: New York City FC vs Chicago Fire FC

Venue: Yankee Stadium

Kick off: Saturday, 24th September, 12am

New York have been in good form at home and they're scoring a lot of goals. They have managed at least two in seven of their last eight here, with the other game being a 1-0 win over LA Galaxy where they should have scored more. It took a year and a quarter, but the new boys have more than found their feet as they chase first place.

Chicago are consigned to finishing in the bottom two of the table once again. Their 3-0 win at Montreal a few weeks back as in absolute freak results. The Fire have lost 29 and drawn 10 since their last away win in MLS. They've allowed 82 goals in those 39 games. They, are, terrible.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

New York City to win can be backed at best odds of ¾ with William Hill which for is a good price given the facts. The draw, in a fixture that finished 0-0 here in April, is available at 3/1 with Bet Victor. Chicago can be backed at 7/2 with Paddy Power but I find little reason to do so.

Although these sides did draw 0-0 when they last met here, New York were underperforming at the start of the season, and Chicago started OK. It was just one of those early season results. City actually drew here last season as well, before winning 4-3 on the road to start this season.

The historical meetings of these sides have been close, but they've also been early in the season. Both teams have settled in to the form you'd expect now and this is a huge, must win game for the hosts. The visitors will want to win, but it honestly makes zero difference if they walk away having lost 5-0.

Chicago's last away game saw them concede six goals against a rather average looking DC United side, so anything could transpire here. I fully expect the home side to win and find the odds to be backable. New York City to win is available at odds of ¾ with William Hill.

Chicago have allowed a lot of goals, City have allowed a lot of goals. The hosts will win this game, but the visitors do usually contribute to the score and City have never got it quite right in defence. They tend to out score teams. City to win 3-1 can be backed at odds of 12/1 with Bet Victor.

Finally, there's one man that has been at the forefront of everything good City have done this season. David Villa is pure quality and has only got better with the support of Lampard and Pirlo to relieve the pressure on him. Back the Spaniard to score here at odds of 8/11.
