QPR vs Leeds United Betting tips and Match Predictions

The ever present and entertaining circus that Leeds United may be threatening to show some stability this season, after a host of talented signings and a steady pre-season. If Gary Monk the man to wake the sleeping giant? Below is our match preview, prediction and betting tips.

Game: QPR vs. Leeds United

Venue: Loftus Road

Kick-off: 1200pm, Sunday 7th August

Despite his inevitably departure (and in the most disrespectful of ways last season) Steve Evans did a more commendable job than most before him. Although I suppose it’s hard to do anything when your chairman eats managers like I eat chocolate biscuits. ‘Time to go Massimo’ will no doubt ring out at Loftus Road at some point this weekend, but so will the usually unrivalled support for their team.Gary Monk has  made a positive start to life as Leeds United manager, signing talented youngsters like Antonsson, Roofe and Bartley to put alongside th experience of Sol Bamba and Pablo Hernandez. Keeping Charlie Taylor was also important, as it showed Leeds (or more so those at the top) still have some ambition at least.

QPR have played seven games so far during this pre-season which is more than most. They’ve compiled a 3-3-1 record from some top games, the highlight of which would have been beating a PSV side on their travels.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will have a warm reception on Sunday as he leads his QPR side out for the first time this season, but it should come from both sets of fans. The QPR gaffer was fairly prolific during a two-year spell with Leeds. He’s assembled a strong and deep squad with plenty of experience this year, and R’s fans have reason to be hopeful.

Match Predictions and Betting Tips

There have been positive signs for both teams during pre-season. Leeds finished with a win against Atalanta, with Kemar Roofe once again showing the step up is not going to be a problem. The young Englishmen may even be the igniting spark in United’s attack this season.

Beating any team fielded by a club like PSV show’s you’re doing something right, and despite a host of draws, QPR can look back on pre-season as successful. League One opposition and above for most of their games (six of which were away) made for a tough pre-season run in, with games coming thick and fast. Both Polter and Washington were on target in their final game, a 2-0 win over Watford, and QPR fans can be optimistic about their striking potential this season.

The home side are betting favourites at best odds of 5/4 with William Hill, although that has been a price on the rise. The draw is a price on the drop at the moment, and Betfred offer 12/5. I fancy that may be a worthwhile prediction. Leeds are on offer at best odds of 11/4 with BetVictor.

Can Leeds raise the Roofe

There are a few extremely talented players I’m looking forward to watching on Sunday, all of whom can turn a game in a second. Kemar Roofe is definitely one of those having both scored and assisted on a number of occasions during Leeds pre-season and I predict a good season for him. Whilst there doesn’t threaten to be as much individual flair in this QPR side, there looks to be a solid wealth of experience and players who will know their job, and probably as JFH suggested a ‘real togetherness’. You can bet no side will beat QPR too comfortably this season.

If history is anything to go by then this will be a tight game. Only twice in the past 12 meetings has there been more than two goals, whilst the away side has done well recently, avoiding defeat in six of eight games. For whatever reason, such history can often be relevant. I expect neither side will want to give anything away this weekend, so I’ll go for a 1-1 draw as my correct score prediction.

If Leeds are to create chances and score goals, I think Roofe has to feature heavily. This young man could be the surprise package of the Championship this year, and he’d put himself straight in to the limelight with a goal here. Roofe to score is available at 11/4 and I think he can play a part in Leeds avoiding defeat, so that’s a worthwhile tip.
