Brighton Vs Man City Predictions, Betting Tips and Preview
Manchester City have spent the big bucks this year whilst many feel like Chelsea have failed to capitalise on last year. United have strengthened, but as their tie with Madrid showed, is it enough to compete at the top? Brighton will be all about consolidation this season, but who is to say they won’t spring a few surprises along the way.
Game: Brighton & Hove Albion vs Man City
Venue: AMEX Stadium
Kick-off: Saturday, 12th August, 5.30pm
When you’ve spent in excess of £200m to add players to a squad already containing the likes of Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva, it’s absolutely right that you’re expected to go and win the league and comfortably so. It’s never that quite straight forward in the Premier League, but Pep Guardiola’s side have looked so, so dominant in pre-season. The way they penned in the likes of Tottenham, West Ham and Real Madrid was reminiscent of a certain Catalan club you might say.
That didn’t stop them from losing to rivals Manchester United though, and many feel there’s a real threat to each others chances from the Manchester neighbours this season. Each and every game could matter in what’s shaping up to be one of the more competitive Premier League seasons for a while, and a win at Brighton is a must for Man City.
The Seagulls are likely to be no pushover and play their own brand of exciting football. There’s a big gap between imposing yourself on the likes of Rotherham United and then Manchester City, but they’ll certainly try. Albion are likely to pick up most of their points at home this season, and they do strike you as a team who will catch a few of the big guns out.
Brighton are a massive 10/1 with Betfred which could be worth if just for the crack. The draw is available at 4/1 with Bet365 whilst the visitors, Man City, are slim pickings at best odds of 3/10 with William Hill.
The big challenge for Pep Guardiola’s side is hitting the ground running. Despite having a lot of new pieces to fit in and some questions still to answer, it would appear to look like Guardiola has addressed every problem you could pick out from City’s last few seasons. They’re certainly stronger at the back, but could their attack minded full backs leave them exposed?
Brighton will have to go some to be the team to do that, but we’re used to seeing defensive mix ups from City, and indeed Pep Guardiola teams actually. Albion have two strikers in International Tomer Hemed and Premier League experienced Glenn Murray who will have nothing to fear about this level, but it remains to be seen if their lack of flair and pace can really trouble teams like Manchester City.
Back our Free Betting Tip: Manchester City -1.5AH at 39/40 with Bet365
It just seems to be a trademark of Pep Guardiola teams that for all their attacking flair, you can catch them cold at the back. Defensive issues have been addressed, but perhaps only if Walker and Danilo don’t get caught out pushing forward and Kompany stays fit. Everyone who plays City this season will get chances to score still, but keeping them out at the other end is the real challenge.
Back our Score Prediction: 3-1 Manchester City at 11/1 with Bet365
No one would be surprised to see Brighton fly out the traps and have a go in this game, perhaps being overwhelmed as the clock ticks on. Anthony Knockaert looks to be the main threat for the hosts, but there are so many attacking options for the visitors. Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus should both thrive with the support they’ll be given this season, and despite the plaudits the ‘wonderkid’ has been earning, don’t be surprised to see Aguero top the league’s goalscoring charts this season.
Back our Scorer Prediction: Sergio Aguero to score at 10/11 with Paddy Power
